Boyne Fishermen's Rescue emergency paging system activated at 09.19am.
Requesting assistance at the Upper Mell Slipway after reports of a dog in difficulty in the water.
We dispatched a mobile unit followed swiftly by our inshore rescue boat to the location.
On arrival of the inshore rescue boat a object was observed in the water just breaking the surface .
On closer inspection crews observed a medium sized dolphin in the area swimming.
We contacted the appropriate services for some further information , advice and guidance.
A health check was quickly conducted and we are currently assisting the appropriate services with this incident.
If members of the public are visiting the area to try locate the dolphin we urge members of the public to remain safe and not to go near the rivers edge or bank.
All crews remain on standby to assist when required.
